This combination of tangy, sweet and spicy flavors is a winner in our house. The whole dish comes together in less than 20 minutes from start to finish. The secret to a great tuna steak is to serve it rare of medium rare so that the tuna doesn’t end up dry and flaky. Serve with Szechuan Green Beans, Japanese Cucumber Salad, or your favorite Asian inspired side dish.
-4 tuna steaks
-1/2 c sweet chili sauce
-1 Tbsp soy sauce
-juice of 1 lime
-1 Tbsp canola or vegetable oil
-(optional) sesame seeds and/ or scallions for garnish
In a small pot, whisk together sweet chili sauce, soy sauce and lime juice. Bring to a boil and simmer, stirring often, until sauce is reduced and thickened (10-15 minutes).
While sauce is simmering, heat oil in a medium pan, over medium heat. Once pan is hot, add tuna. Cook 4 minutes on the first side, flip, and cook an additional 2-4 minutes on the second side until fish is cooked to your liking.
Top tuna with sauce and scallions and/ or sesame seeds for garnish.
