I have tried and tweaked a lot of BBQ Sauce recipes over the years and have finally settled on this version that I love. This recipe combines a bunch on unexpected ingredients to form a unique BBQ sauce that is tangy, smokey, sweet, spicy and all the things you want a good BBQ sauce to be. You can ladle this into jars and give it as gifts or party favors. This recipe fills one quart jar, and a half of another, which is what we use for cooking and serving one batch of Slow Cooker BBQ Pulled Chicken, or Pulled Pork. This will keep for a month in the fridge, so I always make the sauce a few days before I plan to serve it.
-1 (29 oz) can tomato sauce
-1 1/3 c brown sugar or honey
-1/2 c molasses
-1 c cider vinegar
-4 Tbsp Dijon mustard
-4 Tbsp tomato paste
-1 Tbsp liquid smoke
-2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-1 tsp onion powder
-1 tsp garlic powder
-1 tsp smoked paprika
-1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
-1/2 tsp black pepper
-(optional) 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper- if you want it spicy
Place all ingredients in a small pot over medium heat, stir well, simmer 20 minutes. Cool sauce 20 minutes, pour into a jar, then refrigerate until serving.
