These are not ordinary grits. They are loaded with flavor and you will want to serve them for every brunch, shower, holiday and breakfast for dinner from now until eternity. We like ours topped with turkey, bacon, a fried egg, hot sauce and sliced green onions. If you’re feeling a little spicy you could even use these grits for the base to make Shrimp and Grits.
-2 c milk
-2 c water
-1 c quick cooking grits
-3/4 tsp salt
-1/2 tsp pepper
-1/2 tsp garlic powder
-1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
-2 Tbsp butter
-1 c shredded cheddar cheese
-4 oz chopped pimentos
In a medium pot, combine milk and water and bring to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce heat to medium low, so the liquid is at a simmer. Slowly whisk in grits. Cook 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until most of the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, cayenne, butter, cheddar cheese and chopped pimentos. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
